Helping Hands Day 2012

Helping Hands Day, our annual synod-wide day of service, fellowship, and worship, will be held on April 28th, 2012. The home base congregation this year will be St. Peter’s in North Wales, Church and Main St, North Wales PA 19454.

Registration opens on March 2nd, 2012, and we have set a firm registration deadline of April 4th, 2012. The cost of the event is $15/person. As in past years, congregations must register together by carload.

Synod Assembly Youth/Young Adult Voting Members

Just a reminder: each congregation is permitted to send one additional voting member under the age of 25 as a youth/young adult voting delegate to this year’s Synod Assembly, May 4-5. Youth/Young Adult Voting Members are invited to stay at Advent Lutheran Church, Harleysville (5 minutes from Synod Assembly) on Friday night of assembly. The synod will provide transportation to Advent on Friday night and back to the Assembly on Saturday morning, as well as snacks, breakfast, and activities.

New Visions for Bear Creek Camp

After a visioning process that involved hundreds of Bear Creek Camp constituents, the camp’s board has adopted a core purpose statement that reflects the renewed spirit at the camp: “Explore, Celebrate, and Grow in God’s Creation.” As a first step in effecting this change, BCC has retained Mark Ristine to serve as summer director to work with interim executive director Don Hayn on upgrading the 2012 summer program. February Youth of the Month- Sam Meyer

February’s Youth of the Month is Sam Meyer of Redeemer, Jamison. Sam has been involved in the worship life of Redeemer Church for years and years and years. He serves as the Co-Head of Redeemer’s forty-member Acolyte Corp and has done so for more than two years. Before becoming Co-Head of the Acolyte Corp, he served as one of at least two acolytes who assist at each of Redeemer’s worship services. Sam also takes on the responsibility of acting as an Assisting Minister. He is a wonderful example to all of the younger Corps members of what it means to be both faithful and competent. Sam does not limit his involvement to helping with worship; he lends a hand wherever one is needed. Sam is one of those special people who is gifted with the ability to help others with a cheerful heart and face. His presence is a blessing.

Godspell at St. Paul’s Exton

The Troupe of Acts, a group of youth from St. Paul’s Exton and the surrounding community, will put on a production of the Musical Godspell the weekends of February 10th and 17th.

The shows benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, St. Paul’s Youtherans (the youth community at St. Paul’s. The procedes from this show will in part help to send the St. Paul’s Youth to the National Gathering in New Orleans), and St. Paul’s Rejoicing Spirits Community- an innovative ministry which reaches out to enrich the spiritual lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and other supportive community members.

Wonderfully Made Camp: April 13-15

Wonderfully Made is a weekend retreat, held at Bear Creek Camp, for high school students who are currently in 9th to 12th grade, who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning, and their allies. It provides a safe space for youth to discuss their sexuality in the context of their spirituality.

Dates: April 13-15, 2012

Early Bird Registration Fee (Before 3-31-2012): $60.00

Regular Registration Fee (After 3-31-2012): $75.00.

Mission Investment Fund Youth Ministry Accounts Available for Gathering

The Mission Investment Fund has created a “Demand Investment Youth Ministry Account” to allow youth groups to start saving for Gathering expenses or other youth-related events. Accounts can be opened for as little as $100, and services include free checking, 24/7 online access, and a convenient, on-site service center at the Gathering.
